Learning Resource Centre
WELCOME TO THE
LEARNING RESOURCE CENTRE
Location
The Learning Resource Centre (L.R.C.) is centrally located in Room 14, near to the English, Mathematics and Science Departments.
Stock and facilities
The L.R.C. contains well over 8,000 fiction and non-fiction books including audio books, revision guides and magazines. There are 16 networked laptops available for use by pupils and staff, for school- work and conducting research. All have access to the Internet and to the school's local area network, with full Microsoft Office suite as standard. Additionally, we have a secure, grassed Reading Garden where, in fine weather, pupils can read and relax. Annexed to the L.R.C. is the Careers Office, with careers information in books, leaflets, college prospectuses and a careers officer is available for consultation 3 days a week.

Staffing
The Learning Resource Centre is managed by Mrs. Alison Smith and supported at break and lunchtimes by Pupil Library Monitors.
Use
The L.R.C. enjoys a whole variety of uses - individual study, whole class use, small group or individual research, projects, homework, word-processing, information seeking on the Internet and recreational reading in a friendly environment with resources and help always on hand. Pupils can borrow up to 2 items for 2 weeks. All items must be taken to the desk before borrowing or returning.
Borrowing
Any item required for longer must be renewed and re-stamped at the Library desk.
Opening Hours
The LRC is open from 8:15 – 11:40 a.m. and from 12:30 - 4:10 p.m. (including Break and Lunch)
After school Homework Club: 2:55 – 4:10 p.m. (3.30p.m. on Friday)
During lessons:
Pupils sent from lessons for research or study in the L.R.C. must bring a slip signed by their teacher. Teaching Staff can pre-book a class session in advance with Mrs. Smith. Remember: Mrs. Smith is at lunch during Lesson 4 and unfortunately the L.R.C. is closed at this time.
During Break-time and Lunch-time pupils can borrow, return or renew library books; complete homework; conduct research with books and the internet or they can simply relax on our comfy chairs and read a favourite book or magazine.
We have recently gained a Games Club at lunchtime which is managed by Miss Nicky Symons and takes place in the classroom next door. Pupils can play games such as: Chess, Draughts, Boggle, Scrabble, Hangman etc. and the occasional quiz. Pupils must acquire a pass from the L.R.C. at break time in order to gain entry.
Aim
We aim to provide a purposeful learning environment, which encourages all pupils to strive towards high standards of personal achievement.
