Pupils are now in the second year of their GCSE studies, having already achieved qualifications in a number of subjects by the end of Year 10. Year 11 examinations begin in November, with GCSE Mathematics, followed after Christmas by 'mocks' for the remaining GCSE subjects. Controlled tasks and coursework are spread across the first two terms, pupils and parents have already met with us early in the Autumn Term to learn about these committments, and an assessment timetable is available. Consultation with parents is an integral part of the year, and two meetings are scheduled between subject teachers and parents to discuss progress. The first will be on 24th November 2011 and the second on 24th March 2012. Once more, all parents are warmly invited to join us. Our pupils will also gain Essential Skills and Welsh Baccalaureate qualifications by the end of this year. Form Tutors and Senior Staff act as mentors to guide students towards a successful outcome for all their hard work.

As well as their work committment, our Year 11 offers a much valued contribution to our school. Whatever the aspect of school life, be it Year 6 transition, Parents meetings, consultation with governors, charity work and even recycling, you will always find one of our team of prefects, led most ably by our Head Boy and Girl, Daniel Williams and Rhianna Morgan, ready to help. Year 11 also work with departments to offer help to Year 7 with English reading, Welsh and Maths, and they still find time to contribute towards school concerts, Coedcae's newsletter, and our highly successful sports teams.

Hard work brings its rewards, and when Year 11 leave school in June 2012, after their celebration prom, we hope they will take with them some wonderful memories of their time at Coedcae School, along with qualifications and a self belief that will propel them into a happy and successful pathway through life.
