INFORMATION ON OPTION CHOICES
Dear Parent / Guardian,
For the first time Key Stage Four offers pupils a degree of choice of the subjects they study. Whilst this is an exciting time, we appreciate this can also be an anxious and difficult time. Ensuring good choices is crucial for future success. This booklet contains information to help you in the selection process and the School has a structured programme to support the “options” process.
All pupils must study English, Maths, Science and Welsh and follow a programme in Personal, Social and Health Education, Physical Education and Religious Studies. For the first time next year all pupils will also follow the Welsh Baccalaureate programme. The remainder of a pupils’ timetable is made up from 4 subjects they choose.
We encourage all pupils to pick a broad and balanced range of choices that enables all their skills to develop and keep future options flexible. We also encourage pupils to select subjects they find interesting and that are important to their future career choices.
Information regarding Careers Guidance is contained in this booklet along with an outline of each subject and important guidelines on selecting subjects. I would urge both you and your child to study this carefully and discuss possible options. A parents evening at which option choices could be discussed will be held on 3rd March, 2011 at 4.00pm.
Coedcae is working collaboratively with other secondary schools in Llanelli and Coleg Sir Gar to provide a range of specialist options that enable every individual to follow a pathway that suits their strengths. We offer a wide choice of options and this year we will be offering some new and exciting courses. We try to satisfy each person’s first choice of subject. This is not always possible and when such problems occur we will discuss alternative choices.
