Dear Parent /Guardian(s),

I am able to confirm that the National Union of Teachers (NUT) and Association of Teachers & Lecturers (ATL) have instructed their members to hold a day’s industrial action on Thursday, 30th June 2011.

The safety of pupils is of  paramount importance and as a significant number of staff at Coedcae are members of these unions I have taken the decision to close the School to pupils on the day of the industrial action.

School will re-open on Friday, 1st July 2011 and I seek your support in ensuring that your child returns to school on that day.

Yours sincerely,

The final GCSE is on Monday 27th June. Please ensure that you check the duration of the exams, some afternoon examinations will not finish in time for the end of school.

Prom tickets are on sale until Friday 13th May costing £25. We have also produced a Year Book which will be a lovely memento of their time at Coedcae School and they are on sale for £3.
Pupils are to remain in school until Friday 13th May and should ensure that they are in school uniform. This is also compulsory during all GCSE examinations.

Should you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate in getting in touch with me. May I take this opportunity to thank you for your support during these last three years and wish your son / daughter every success for the future.

Dear Parent/Carer(s),

The autumn term draws to close on Wednesday, 22nd December. Once again, I am able to look back with pride across a term when the work of pupils and staff has allowed the School to achieve high standards across a range of activities. The School magazine ‘Coedcae Shouts’ has won a regional award for its design and content. The School choir has performed on a number of occasions at Parc y Scarlets and the musical ‘Our House’ played to excellent audiences at Theatr Elli.

The new school year begins for pupils on Thursday, 6th January 2011. As weather forecasters continue to warn us that the present cold snap is likely to be a factor into the New Year, I would like to take this opportunity to remind you of procedures for school closure. If a decision is taken to close the School, it will be confirmed on option 4 of the School’s automated telephone system, the School’s website: www.coedcae.com and the Carmarthenshire County Council website: www.carmarthenshire.gov.uk. This information will also be available on Scarlet FM and Swansea Sound radio stations. These are the only official sources of information; no other media should be relied upon.

The New Year is an important time for pupils. There will be a Year 9 Parents’ Evening on Thursday, 3rd March. This is an important event which is designed to help pupils make an informed choice regarding subjects to be taken at GCSE and Entry Level during Years 10 and 11. Year 11 GCSE ‘Mock’ examinations begin on Monday, 24th January. An examination timetable will be issued to pupils on their return to school in January. A Year 11 Parents’ Evening is scheduled for Thursday, 10th March. Please make every effort to attend so that you can receive up to date information on your child’s progress as they make their final preparations for the GCSE examinations in May/June 2011.

There are two Inset days during the spring term: Wednesday, 5th January and Tuesday, 5th April 2011.

In closing, may I take this opportunity to thank parents and carers for their continued support of the School. I look forward to working with you during 2011.

Yours sincerely,

Dear Parent/Carer,

Re:  Influenza AH1N1 – Swine Flu

You will be aware from media coverage that the number of cases of swine flu has fallen throughout Wales over the summer.   However, I have been advised by the Chief Medical Officer for Wales that we can expect the number of cases to increase again through the autumn and winter.

I am keen to minimise any potential impact upon your child’s education.   Attached is information regarding symptoms and what to do if you have concerns.   If your child develops swine flu symptoms then they should be kept at home while the symptoms persist and until they return to good health.   I would welcome you advising the School that your child is being kept at home with swine flu symptoms.   We are fortunate that, unlike many schools, we possess a full time nurse in School.   If your child develops symptoms during the day, then following basic screening, we will contact you and arrange for your child to be sent home.  It is therefore essential that we have up to date contact details.  With the reports sent out at the end of the year was a data sheet that contained contact details we hold for your child, I would be grateful if you could check this and ensure it is returned so that we have accurate contact details.

In the event of your child being absent from School for a prolonged period then appropriate work will be sent home.

I would welcome your support with this matter so that we can ensure your child’s welfare and the smooth running of School.

Yours sincerely,
