PASS
At Coedcae within our PASS department we have five Pastoral Support Assistants, each one dedicated to a specific year group and led by our Inclusion Manager Jo Antoniazzi.
Each Pastoral Support Assistant works in conjunction with the Pupil Progress Manager in supporting pupils and their families with any emotional, social or behavioural issue. The PASS team deliver a number of programmes including emotional literacy, anger management

and conflict resolution. Counselling services are also offered.
Within Coedcae our focus is very much on inclusion, supporting pupils to remain at Coedcae feeling happy and secure in their environment which in turn leads to greater academic progress. Ultimately we want our pupils to feel valued.
In addition to offering programmes and trying to resolve problems we also use new approaches which have been recently introduced;
Restorative Justice - There are times when traditional approaches can fail to change behaviour, restorative techniques recognise this weakness and challenge behaviour in different ways. Restorative approaches aim to resolve conflict and repair harm. The strategies used are designed to encourage those who have caused harm to acknowledge the impact of what they have done, and then to provide them with an opportunity to make amends. It offers those who have suffered harm the opportunity to have their harm or loss acknowledged and for amends to be made. Restorative approaches cover a range of activities, which aim to repair the harm done by wrong doing.
Family Learning Signature - The Family Learning Signature is a tool used to work with families, it brings the family together to discuss aspects of family life within four areas; Environment, Skills, Commitment, Culture. When complete the family are able to keep their signature, which can serve as a visual reward for all the great things they do as a family. It also helps us identify what we can do to help support pupils and their families.
Emotional Literacy - Programmes designed to be worked through with the Pastoral Support Assistant, with the aim of improving a pupils confidence, assertiveness and/or self esteem.
Behaviour Modification - Programmes designed to be worked through with the Pastoral Support Assistant, with the aim of improving a pupils behaviour by highlighting the damage their behaviour is having on themselves on a personal level and educationally and providing them with alternative behaviour strategies.
